Ms Olin White was very lucky to have lived on a large family dairy farm in upstate New York, far from New York City. The farmland was originally travelled by early settlers to the Susquehanna River valley. The school district had one building which Ms Olin White attended for 12 years. She then attended Russell Sage College where she studied biology before transferring to Cornell University College of Human Ecology. All of those science courses laid a foundation for studies in Foods and Nutrition and culminated in a degree in Education and certification as a home economics teacher. After substituting for 4 years and taking additional graduate studies, she began her teaching career full-time as a middle school science teacher. Eventually she was the science department at a private school, with awesome students who may have struggled to read but sure loved science and discovering the world around them. Over 20 years ago, she joined the teaching team in Colonial School District where she continues to teach.
Outside of school, I do lots of volunteer work with Grace United Methodist Church and VA Siamese Cat Rescue Center. Lots of kitty cats live with us; all are rescued from shelters or were dumped by their owners. Some are only Wilmington residents temporarily until their forever adopter finds them. I especially love to foster old Siamese we call meezers or those with some behavior issues who need time to learn that people are kind and okay. Two rescued dogs also share my home. One, Son Bon, is a mini poodle almost 17 years old and doing fine. His doggie sister is Jane Austen, a dog who came from WV and who adores the cats. Yes, dogs and cats can lived together just fine.
I still love to learn and read lots of nonfiction books, take lessons regularly about advanced sewing and machine embroidery. My favorite way to share my talent is to create customized gifts for my friends.
